What you’ve done. What you’re good at. Who you know.

Are you defined by your accomplishments and connections?

These are the sort of things you share about yourself when meeting someone new.

And they do reveal something about your skills, intelligence, or social standing.
But do these things communicate who you really are?
Something is missing.
We need to start recognising value based on something deeper than accomplishments.
The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
1 Samuel 16:7b-c

Looking deeper

People may judge you based on your accomplishments, but they can’t know what’s going on in your heart.
The one who tests your heart to see everything inside of you is God, your Maker.
He sees the good but also all of the things that you hoped nobody would find out about.
Even though we all fail this heart-test, God loves us enough to offer forgiveness for our failings.

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)
Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
Ephesians 2:4-5; 9

Real value

We are known completely by God, both the good and the bad. And we have value in his eyes, not because of what we’ve done, but because he created us.

God has made a way for us to find our value and identity in him.

Discover what it means to have your value based on what he has done, not what you have done!
